Starting a new company and/or running your own business isn’t easy at the best of times: and it can seem nearly impossible when you have to contend with sleepless nights, nappy changing and toddler tantrums! We would like to hear how you or a friend successfully manages their hectic business schedule around being a full-time parent.
Our 2011 Business Parent of the Year is Shauna McCarney. Here is her story: This year’s winner, Shauna McCarthy is a mum of two who has achieved an admirable work/life balance, while realising her dream of providing other parents with access to healthy food for their little ones through her company, Heavenly Tasty Organics. While weaning her two children, Shauna struggled to find supermarket products as good as what she could prepare at home and was inspired to create a line of organic, healthy baby food products that all parents could benefit from. Shauna’s company, Heavenly Tasty Organics, now produces a range of eight frozen baby weaning products which are stocked in 39 SuperValu stores across Northern Ireland. The brand is also currently developing a new range of products which will hopefully be available in the Republic of Ireland and the UK in the coming months. Shauna has a staff of four, but she still has a full schedule of sales and marketing meetings, ongoing product development and production planning to manage. Nevertheless, according to Shauna’s fiancé James, she always drops off and collects her children from school, supporting their extra-curricular activities, helping them with homework, and spending quality time with them. According to James, “Shauna has shown strength and determination in reaching her goal of providing parents with a helping hand. However she has always been the loving, caring and fantastic mum that I have known her to be.” |
